Salisbury Cathedral - 6 miles
Surely Britain’s most stunning 13th Century Gothic Cathedral, proud owner of the tallest spire in the land. It stands in the largest medieval close in Britain.
Stonehenge - 6 miles.
The name Stonehenge - literally translated as ‘hanging stones’ - is thought to derive from Anglo-Saxon times and is now officially a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stonehenge’s is not only the most highly developed stone circle in the world, it is also totally unique as it has lintels around the top.
Wilton House - 3 miles
Wilton House is built on the site of a 9th century nunnery, now set in 21 acres of beautifully landscaped parkland, with lovely water and rose gardens. Discover its secrets as you stroll through its splendid rooms and be amazed at its fine architecture.
Longleat - Country House and Safari Park 10 miles
A truly beautiful stately home, this magnificent Elizabethan property is set within 900 acres of magnificent ‘Capability Brown’ landscaped parkland and is now home to the 7th Marquess of Bath. Longleat offers a great day out for all the family with lions, tigers, monkeys and giraffes, living within the amazing Safari Park.
Old Sarum 6 miles
The huge earthwork of Old Sarum stands near Salisbury on the edge of Wiltshire’s chalk plains. The remains of the prehistoric fortress and the Norman palace, castle and cathedral are now property of the English Heritage and are open to the public.
Local activities
Cycle routes/Walking/Rambling routes - The area is well known for fantastic walking and cycling. Little Langford Down is a chalk down land area, hidden in the middle of pretty Grovely Wood near Wilton - a lovely place to spend a few hours. There are plenty of good cycle routes in this area.
Fishing - The river Wylye is one of England’s most superb chalk streams. Situated on a half mile stretch is The Langford Lakes Nature Reserve which allows fishing for wild Brown Trout in spring and summer, and Grayling in autumn and winter, on a catch and release basis.
Ornithology - Langford Lakes , a former gravel pit , is a great place to be at one with nature. Here you can see dragonflies, butterflies and all manner of migrant birds, set in stunning surroundings.
Golf - There are at least four excellent golf clubs in and around the area, such as Salisbury and South Wilts Golf Club .
Shooting & Hunting - The Wylye Valley Shooting Ground is a Registered shooting ground and has an unrivalled reputation for top quality English Sporting
